Alexandra H. Oglesby

Practice Summary

Alex concentrates her practice in the areas of business, corporate and tax law.  She regularly represents both individual and corporate clients concerning the tax consequences and structuring of all types of business transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, sales, reorganizations and tax-deferred exchanges. Alex has experience in the drafting of wills and trusts and in the probate of estates.  She also assists clients in connection with audits by the Internal Revenue Service, appeals before the Internal Revenue Service, adversary proceedings before the U.S. Tax Court, protests of ad valorem tax assessments, requests for Private Letter Rulings from the Internal Revenue Service, applications for 501(c)(3) status, and in ERSIA and other regulatory matters.

While in law school, Alex was a member of Phi Delta Phi, the William C. Keady Chapter of the American Inns of Court, Phi Kappa Phi and the Mississippi Law Journal. She was the recipient of the outstanding student award in seven courses, including labor law, income taxation of individuals, employment discrimination and employee benefits. In addition, Alex was the recipient of numerous other awards, including the W. Kerby Bowling, Sr. Labor Law Award, the Phi Delta Phi Outstanding Senior Law Student Award, and the Dean Robert J. Farley Award (given to the student with the highest grade point average in each graduating class). Alex served a prosecutorial extern in the Fourth Circuit Court District during the summer of 2006, and she also served as a research assistant to professors in the areas of labor & employment law and intellectual property.  She is the author of ÒEliminating Injustice: Revising MississippiÕs Statutory Rape Laws,Ó published in 76 Mississippi Law Journal 1067 (2007). She is a member of the American Bar Association and The Mississippi Bar.
